What is Bacterial Conjunctivitis?

“Pink Eye” is one of the most common ocular conditions patients suffer from. “Pink Eye” or more formally know as conjunctivitis comes in three major forms- bacterial, viral and allergic.

Determining which specific type of conjunctivitis a patient has is essential to the proper management and treatment of the condition.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is an infectious condition usually associated with poor ocular hygiene. Whether it is a dirty contact lens or an unwashed hand, bacterial conjunctivitis is usually caused by getting something in your eyes.

Tell tale signs may include redness, matting of the eye lashes and ‘goopy’ discharge. This is an infectious condition and needs to be treated with an antibiotic.

Regular Screenings are Key – No Matter Your Age

You could be 10 years old or 100 years old, the importance of maintianing great ocular health will remain the same.

Children usually change RX every 9-12 months as they grow. In additions kids need a professional to monitor changes and health issues because they may not recognize a change.

Patients between 20-40 years old who wear Rx need to be checked annually for RX changes. Not only is this for good health, State law requires contact lens wearers to hava an annual exam due to the fact that contact RX expires every 12 months.

Over 40? You should be just as concerned about your ocular health. Those individules over 40 need to be monitored for Near Vision Changes.

More specifically if you are over 50 annual checks are needed to detect Cataracts, Claucoma, and Macular Degineration.

Style Tip

Glasses can be a great accessory to any outfit or look. One of the most important things to consider is the proper frame shape to accompany your face. People with rounder faces should look at more square and oval frames, and just the opposite holds true for those with longer and square faces. Also, you can choose to match your hair color and skin tone or make a dramatic statement with some color and flash. Another major decision is to go for the ‘invisible’ look with a drill mount and wire temples, or choose to ‘make a statement’ with some extra flash and panache. In any event, it is a fashion call for you to decide on and love. Our well trained fashion consultants are NOT on commission, and are ready to help you select the frame that suits you best.
